Electronics Repair Service

What we repair

We love the unusual. Don’t chuck it just yet! BenchBod repairs and investigates a wide range of electronic and small electrical equipment, including:

  • Audio and hi-fi equipment

  • Computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones

  • Games consoles and accessories

  • Electronic test equipment

  • Power supplies, chargers and control boards

  • Vintage and obsolete electronic equipment

  • Other consumer and specialist electronic devices

Every repair is different, so we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accept or repair an item until we have reviewed its details. Please contact us before sending or bringing in unusually large, hazardous, safety-critical or specialist equipment.

We may decline equipment that is unsafe, contaminated, severely damaged or outside our facilities or expertise.

Booking and inspection fee

A £10 booking and inspection fee is payable when you book your repair. This covers administration, the initial examination of your item and the preparation of a repair quotation.

The inspection fee pays for the diagnostic service and does not guarantee that the item can be repaired. It is separate from the quoted repair cost and remains payable on booking, even if you decide not to proceed or the item is found to be beyond economical repair.

If more extensive diagnostic work is needed before we can provide a quotation, we will explain this and obtain your approval before incurring any additional charge.

Your repair quotation

After inspecting your item, we will explain what we have found and provide a quotation wherever reasonably possible. The quotation will normally include:

  • The proposed repair work

  • Parts and labour

  • Any applicable return-delivery charge

  • Any known limitations or remaining faults

  • An estimated turnaround time

No chargeable repair work beyond the initial inspection will begin until you have approved the quotation.

Approval may be given by email, message or another agreed written method. By approving the quotation, you authorise us to carry out the work described and agree to pay the quoted amount. We

Additional work or costs

A quotation is based on the faults and conditions identified during the initial inspection. Occasionally, further problems become apparent only after dismantling or repair work has begun.

We will not carry out work that would increase the agreed price without contacting you and obtaining your approval first. If you do not approve the additional cost, we will stop the repair and discuss the available options with you.

Minor changes that do not increase the agreed price do not require further approval.

Uneconomical or unsuccessful repairs

We will tell you if we believe the likely repair cost is disproportionate to the item’s value, if suitable parts cannot be obtained or if a reliable repair is not reasonably possible.

You may then choose to:

  • Have the item returned unrepaired

  • Authorise further investigation or repair

  • Ask us to retain the item for parts or responsible recycling, where appropriate

The inspection fee and any other work you previously authorised will remain payable.

Although we take reasonable care when diagnosing and repairing equipment, some faults are intermittent, concealed or caused by unavailable components. We cannot guarantee that every item will be repairable but we will do our best.

Turnaround times

We aim to inspect and repair items as promptly as possible. After the initial inspection, we will give you an estimated timescale based on the work required and the availability of parts.

Turnaround estimates are not guaranteed completion dates. Delays may arise because of parts availability, intermittent faults, specialist work or circumstances outside our reasonable control. We will let you know if there is a significant change to the expected timescale.

The turnaround period pauses while we are waiting for your instructions, quotation approval, payment, information or access codes.

Repair warranty

Unless we state otherwise in writing, completed repairs are covered by a 90-day BenchBod repair warranty from the date the item is returned or made available for collection.

The warranty covers a recurrence of the same fault caused by the parts supplied or work performed by BenchBod. If you believe the repair has failed during the warranty period, please contact us before arranging work elsewhere.

The warranty does not cover:

  • A different or unrelated fault

  • Accidental damage, misuse, liquid damage or neglect after the repair

  • Malware, software corruption or data loss

  • Consumable parts or normal wear and tear

  • Problems caused by accessories, chargers or equipment not supplied or repaired by us

  • Equipment that has subsequently been opened, altered or repaired by someone else

  • A limitation or unrepaired fault that was explained before the item was returned

Where the warranty applies, we will inspect the item and, where reasonably possible, correct the covered fault without an additional labour charge. This warranty is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory consumer rights.

Uncollected devices

We will contact you when your item is ready for collection or when we need you to decide what should happen to an unrepaired item.

Please collect the item and pay any outstanding amount within 30 days of our notification. If you cannot collect it within that period, contact us so that alternative arrangements can be agreed.

If an item remains uncollected, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you and may issue formal written notice requiring collection. If the item is still not collected after the notice period, we may exercise our rights under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, including selling the item where the legal requirements have been met.

Any permitted sale proceeds will be applied towards unpaid repair charges and the reasonable costs of storage, notice and sale. Any remaining balance will be dealt with as required by law. We will not treat an uncollected item as automatically abandoned or dispose of it without following an appropriate process.

You are responsible for keeping your contact details up to date.

Postal repairs

Please book your repair and wait for confirmation before posting an item to us. We will provide the correct delivery address and any reference number that must be included with the parcel.

Before posting:

  • Back up important data wherever possible

  • Remove SIM cards, memory cards and unrelated removable storage

  • Remove passwords or provide any access code needed for testing

  • Include only the chargers, cables or accessories relevant to the fault

  • Include your name, contact details, booking reference and a clear description of the problem

  • Pack the item securely with suitable protection on every side

  • Use a tracked service with insurance appropriate to the item’s value

  • Keep your proof of posting and tracking information

You are responsible for the cost and risk of sending the item to us. BenchBod is not responsible for loss or damage occurring before the parcel is delivered to us.

Do not post damaged, swollen, leaking or recalled lithium batteries. Contact us first if the item contains a battery that may be unsafe.

Return postage and suitable packaging will be included in or added to your quotation where applicable. We remain responsible for taking reasonable care of the item while it is in our possession.

Local drop-off and collection

Local drop-off and collection are available by prior appointment only. Please complete a repair booking or contact us before travelling.

Once your appointment is confirmed, we will provide the drop-off details and explain what to bring. Please do not leave equipment unattended or arrive without an agreed appointment, as someone may not be available to receive it.

When dropping off an item, please bring your booking reference and any accessories needed to demonstrate or test the fault.

Starting work during the cancellation period

When a repair is booked online, by telephone or away from our business premises, you may have a statutory right to cancel the service contract during the 14-day cancellation period.

You can ask us to wait until that period has ended before beginning the inspection or repair. Alternatively, you can expressly request that we begin sooner.

If you ask us to start during the cancellation period and subsequently cancel after work has begun, you may be required to pay for the service supplied up to the time you cancel. If the service is fully completed during the cancellation period, you will lose the right to cancel once it has been fully performed, provided you expressly requested the early start and acknowledged this consequence.

Booking-form consent checkbox

I expressly request that BenchBod begins the inspection and, where separately approved, repair service during my 14-day cancellation period. I understand that if I cancel after the service has begun, I may have to pay for the work completed up to the time of cancellation. I also understand that if the agreed service is fully completed during that period, I will lose my right to cancel once it has been fully performed.

If you do not select this option, we will wait until the applicable cancellation period has ended before beginning the service.
