About BenchBod | Fix It. Learn It. Build It.

BenchBod grew out of something very simple: a genuine fascination with how things work.

I’ve always been the sort of person who would rather take something apart, understand what has failed and see if it can be repaired than simply throw it away and replace it. Electronics gives you an endless supply of things to investigate — sometimes frustrating, frequently surprising, but rarely boring.

That curiosity eventually became BenchBod.

Today, BenchBod brings together three things I love doing: repairing electronics, building and experimenting with new projects, and helping other people learn enough to have a go themselves.

From My Bench to Yours

This isn't a faceless electronics retailer with thousands of products I've never seen or used.

I actually spend time at the bench.

One day that might mean diagnosing a faulty radio or battery charger. Another might involve repairing a phone, investigating a failed power supply, building an Arduino project or trying to understand why a circuit stubbornly refuses to behave the way the schematic says it should.

And sometimes the repair doesn't work first time.

That's part of it.

Real electronics is about measuring, testing, making mistakes, asking questions and gradually understanding what's happening. I think there's far more value in showing that process than pretending every repair is obvious and every project works perfectly first time.

That philosophy carries through to the products you'll find here.

An Electronics Shop With a Difference

BenchBod sells electronics kits, development boards, components, tools and useful bits and pieces for makers, repairers and people who simply want to learn.

But I don't want this to become another website filled with thousands of anonymous products.

I'd rather offer things that are interesting, useful or educational — products that I would happily have sitting on my own workbench.

Where possible, I'll also build, test, demonstrate and create content around the things we sell. The idea is that you shouldn't just receive a box through the post. You should be able to understand what you've bought, what you can do with it and hopefully discover something new along the way.

Repair Before Replace

Modern electronics is often treated as disposable.

Something stops working, so it gets replaced.

I think that's a shame.

A surprising amount of equipment can be repaired if somebody is prepared to investigate the fault properly. Of course, not everything should be repaired — sometimes the time, parts or cost simply don't make sense — but finding that out is part of good repair work too.

BenchBod takes on a wide variety of electronic repairs rather than specialising in only one type of device. The interesting question is usually the same:

What's actually wrong with it, and can we sensibly fix it?

Keeping useful equipment working for longer saves money, reduces waste and, frankly, is much more satisfying than throwing it in a bin.

Learning in Public

BenchBod isn't built around pretending I know everything.

Quite the opposite.

I'm still learning, and I expect I always will be.

Electronics is enormous. Every repair, circuit and new piece of test equipment provides another opportunity to understand something a little better. Through BenchBod videos, articles, projects and products, I want to share that process — including the troubleshooting, mistakes and occasional moments when something finally works after hours of wondering why it doesn't.

If you're learning too, you're welcome at the bench.

You don't need an engineering degree, a workshop full of expensive equipment or twenty years of experience to start understanding electronics.

You just need curiosity and a willingness to have a go.

Building Things

Repairing existing electronics is only half the fun.

BenchBod is also about making things.

That can mean experimenting with Arduino and microcontrollers, designing circuits, building test equipment, putting together educational kits, prototyping ideas, working with PCBs, 3D printing enclosures or simply connecting a handful of components on a breadboard to see what happens.

Over time, I want BenchBod to develop more of its own projects and learning kits — particularly things that don't just tell you where to put the components, but help explain why the circuit works.

Because successfully building something is satisfying.

Understanding what you've built is even better.

What Sets BenchBod Apart

Everything here connects back to the same workbench.

We fix things. We build things. We sell the parts, tools and kits that help other people do the same.

The repair work gives us real faults to investigate. Those repairs create things worth teaching. Learning leads to new projects. Projects uncover useful tools and components. And those eventually become products and ideas that can be shared with other makers.

That's what I want BenchBod to be — not simply a shop, repair service or YouTube channel, but a growing community built around practical electronics.

Whether you're trying to resurrect something that stopped working, attempting your first electronics project, looking for something interesting to build or you've been doing this for decades, you're welcome here.

Pull up a chair.

There's always something on the bench.

BenchBod — Fix It. Learn It. Build It.

What Sets Us Apart

BenchBod isn’t just an electronics shop. We build things, we fix things, and we sell the parts, tools and kits we genuinely find useful along the way. That hands-on experience shapes everything we do — from choosing what to stock to explaining how it works. Whether you’re repairing something that would otherwise be thrown away, learning electronics for the first time, or building your next project from scratch, our aim is simple: practical products, useful knowledge and real-world electronics from someone who actually spends time at the bench.

Built by Someone Who Actually Uses It

Everything we sell is chosen from a maker’s point of view. We build, repair and experiment with electronics ourselves, so we understand what’s useful on a real workbench — and what isn’t.

Learn, Don’t Just Buy

We want our products to help you understand electronics, not simply arrive in a box. Wherever we can, we provide practical information, guidance and ideas to help you get more from what you’re building.

Proper, Personal Support

Got a question or stuck on a project? You’re dealing with a real person who understands electronics. We’ll do our best to help you get things working, whether you’re completely new to the hobby or have been building circuits for years.
